Well this is it folks. The end of semester 1 of the first year of CreComm. I had originally planned to post my faourite assignment for you all to see, but I broke my jump stick this morning. If it was gonna happen, at least it was on the very last day after I finished the very last assignment. It's almost liberating.I usually leave the list writing for my other blog (yea, I'm a nerd), but as a replacement, I'm going to list my top 10 favourite (least favourite?) assignments of this semester.

Combo: Day 5 and 6
It's getting closer!
So today I am combing numbers 5 and 6. That's okay though, because this holiday treat is so large that it deserves to have two days.
Before I went to work today, I started my CHRISTMAS BAKING! That's right, I made cookies. They're not typical Christmas cookies that are found in most households, but in my family, it's just not Christmas without them. We call them Happy Day Cookies. They're all chocolaty and coconuty and some people put nuts in them. Today I made around five dozen and I'll probably make more when school is finished. Christmas is the one day a year that I am allowed to have whatever I want for breakfast (yea, I know, my mom still tells me what I can and can't do) and that is what I have. Christmas goodies.
Happy Day Cookies aren't the only treats we have though. We always a variety of other cookies, cakes and nibbles that complete our Christmas meals. Needless to say, a big part of Christmas is the sugar!
Since the Christmas baking is such a necessaty and there are so many possibilities, here is the list of my Top 10 Favourite Christmas Yum-Yums!
10. Candy cane cookies. Basically sugar cookies, but it's red and white cookie twisted together to look like a candy cane. Makes sense, right?
9. Neopolitan cookies. Red, white and green stripes. My mom usually puts cherries in them too.
8. Peanut Butter balls.
7. Chocolate Cake. Gonna be honest, don't really eat cake, but it still warms my heart to see it on the table.
6. Fin Hagel. I don't even remember if that's you spell it. Not too sweet, not to plain. Almonds on top and a light cinnamony flavour.
5. Mincemeat tarts. It's my grandma's specialty every year. Very classic as far as I'm concerned.
4. Sugar cookies. Duh.
3. Shortbread. Again, duh. I think my dad would probably cancel Christmas if we missed the shortbread.
2. Cheesecake.
1. HAPPY DAY COOKIES! You would not believe how many of these things I scarf down during the holidays. Bring it pn cookies! Bring it on!

Day 4
Woop Woop! It's Friday!
Not only is it Friday, it's also December fourth, or Day 4 of the Sort of Great Christmas Countdown.
Let's see, for day 4, the Christmas theme will be...a four letter word....SNOW!
I think it is officially winter in Winnipeg because we finally have snow!
If you're from Winnipeg, I'm sure your were starting to worry if there would be snow for Christmas, I know I was. I definately uttered the words "imagine if we had a green Christmas!" once or twice. But now I'm cold.
Anyways, what's Christmas without snow? How would Santa complete a soft landing on our rooftops? Or more importantly, would Rudolph be out of a job?!
Really, you can't have Christmas in Winnipeg without snow, it just doesn't happen. When I was younger, we spent more time outside in the snow than we did sleeping (I'm sure we even took a nap in the snow once or twice).
I still thouroughly enjoy the first snowfall of the year, and while it's cold as heck (oxymoron), it's one of the more beautiful things of nature. Also, you're never too old for a snowball fight!
It's a long running tradition in my family to watch White Christmas, starring my dear, dear Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney (George Clooney's aunt), and Vera-Ellen. It's a musical about a couple of old war buddies who start a musical performance group and a couple of sister who trick the men into letting them be a part of the show. They end up at a resort in Vermont that is suffering due to the lack of snow and put on a big production in honour of their former army superior that now owns the business. Did I mention it's a musical?
My brother and sister and I know all the songs and my sister and I have performed the "Sisters" song on more than one occassion...
Have a snow ball fight, make a snow man, make a snow fort and whatever you do, DON'T EAT THE YELLOW SNOW!!

December 3, 2009 or Day 3 of the Sort of Great Christmas Countdown!! (How lengthy of a title is this?!)
Day three already! Christmas just can't come fast enough. Seriously.
This list is turning out to be a little more difficult than I had first thought. Not because I can't think of anything, but because I am thinking of too many things. I don't want to give away all the good ones right off the hop.
That being said, I feel that it's fitting for this particular Christmas classic to be entered on this day. It's just not the holiday season without a little Scrooge.
Of course I'm talking about Charles Dickens' book A Christmas Carol, in which a grumpy, stingy old man is visited by three spirits on Christmas Eve and is shown the consequences of his ways. I really can not think of a year where this wonderful story was not part of my holiday in one way or another. I have the actual novel itself, which for some reason I never seem to actually finish before the season is over (I'll do it this year though).
Two years ago, I went to the Manitoba Theatre Centre to see it live. I was absolutely amazing. The costumes and the actors were great and it was probably one of my favourite productions that I've seen there. The ghost of Christmas present was an actress that was suspended from the ceiling and wore a white costume that touched the surface of the stage. The actor playing Scrooge had to look waaaay up when he was talking to her.
Of course I can't forget every one's favourite mouse as Bob Cratchet. "Mickey's Christmas Carol" is definitely in the classic category, and Mickey Mouse doesn't even play a main character in the story. While I love the book itself, I can never get enough of this one. Goofy is hilarious as Jacob Marley and who better to play Scrooge than Scrooge McDuck. I remember actually being a little scared at the end when the ghost of Christmas yet to come, played by Pete, throws Scrooge into his own grave. It just screams jolly!
Disney is also taking another crack at the film version of the story this year with a 3D animated feature, starring the voice of Jim Carrey as Scrooge. I'm still in school, so going to movies is not a luxary I can partake in yet, but when I can...
So basically, if this Christmas is anything like last Christmas, and all the ones before that, I will get my fair share of A Christmas Carol.

Day 2 of the Sort of Great Christmas Countdown
Day 2 of the Sort of Great Christmas Countdown!
Maybe it's not that great, but give me a little credit.
The item I have chosen for today should probably have been chosen yesterday, so I beg for your forgiveness. I'm making this up as I go along, so it may not be in the best order.
Carrying on.
Today's item is the good old chocolate advent calendar! Unless Christmas is a holiday that you do not celebrate, I bet you know exactly what I'm talking about. I bet you cheated on it too!
Personally, I have this weird fear of karma, so I didn't cheat, but I'm embarrassed to say it and I may be the only person in the world that hasn't.
How great were these things? A piece of chocolate everyday until Christmas. Whoever came up with that must be rolling in it now. It was always fun to hunt for the day, crack open the little cardboard door and see what picture was on that little miniature chocolate square.
Good times...
I'm still tempted to get those darn things. You walk by them in the store and their so cheap. That's some classic Christmas memory there for you.
So please, have a chocolate for me this year!

To kick things off, I'd like to start with everyone's favourite Christmas commercial with everyone's favourite bug!
No, it's not the mosquito. It's Louie the Lightning Bug! If you have spent your childhood watching TV in Manitoba, I'm sure you know the words to all of Louie's songs.
My personal favourite is the Christmas one, and not only because I'm a Christmas addict. The singing lightbulbs and plugs still make me giggle.
Here's a little reminder!
